Someday My Prince Will Come...

After many years, Cinderella finally reached the ripe age of 95 years old.

After a fulfilling life with the now dead prince, she now happily sits upon her rocking chair, watching the world go by from her front porch, with a cat named Bob for companionship. One sunny afternoon out of nowhere, appeared the fairy godmother.

Cinderella says, "Fairy Godmother, what are you doing here after all these years"?

The fairy godmother replied, "Cinderella, you have lived an exemplary life since I last saw you. I'm prepared to grant you three wishes. Is there anything for which your heart still yearns?" Cinderella was taken back, overjoyed, and after some thoughtful consideration, she uttered her first wish:

"The prince was wonderful, but not much of an investor. I'm living hand to mouth on my disability checks, and I wish I were wealthy beyond comprehension. Instantly her rocking chair turned into solid gold. Cinderella said, "Ooh, thank you, Fairy Godmother"

"It is the least that I can do," replies her Fairy Godmother. "What do you want for your second wish?"

Cinderella looked down at her frail body, and said, "I wish I were young and full of the beauty and youth I once had."

At once, her wish became reality, and her beautiful young visage returned. Cinderella felt stirrings inside of her that had been dormant for years.

And then the fairy godmother spoke once more: "You have one more wish; what shall it be?"

Cinderella looks over to the frightened cat in the corner and says, "I wish for you to transform Bob, my old cat, into a kind and handsome young man."

Magically, Bob suddenly underwent so fundamental a change in his biological make-up that, when he stood before her, he was a man so beautiful the likes of him neither she nor the world had ever seen.

"Congratulations, Cinderella, enjoy your new life!" And with a blazing shock of bright blue electricity, the Fairy Godmother was gone as suddenly as she appeared.

For a few eerie moments, Bob and Cinderella looked into each other's eyes. Cinderella sat, breathless, gazing at the most beautiful, stunningly perfect man she had ever seen.

Then Bob walked over to Cinderella, who sat transfixed in her rocking chair, and held her close in his young muscular arms.

He leaned in close, blowing her golden hair with his warm breath as he whispered...

"Bet you're sorry you neutered me."

    <lj:music>the Beautiful - Five for Fighting</lj:music>

This is a film which comes super highly recommended.
Blood Diamond was directed by Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai, Legends of the Fall), a staunchly mainstream filmmaker who seems most at ease with the language of epic storytelling.
This highly engaging movie is an explosive fusion of action, emotional rides and enlightenment. Powerful, well-acted and very persuasive.
Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) is forced to work in the diamond mines in Sierra Leone and finds a crimson tainted, rough stone of incredible value and buries it. Danny Archer (ubercute Leonardo DiCaprio) a soldiers turned artful diamond-smuggler gloms Solomon and promises to help get his family back in exhange for the diamond. Providing aid, righteous indignation and a slight frisson of romance is American journalist, Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly). She is hot on Danny's trail, wanting solid proofs needed to expose the scum-filled, dirty, bloodied-trailed business behind the glamorous diamond brand (read: De Beers).

''T.I.A.," is said only two scenes, but it echoes throughout the entire movie.
It stands for "This Is Africa," and it conveys a strange brand of fatalism. It's uttered with a shrug, real or verbal, capturing both the love that binds the continent and the chaos that tears it to pieces. War, corruption, blood-red earth and rugged beauty: T.I.A

Boyboy is so glad he belanja-ad me to this movie. Now that I am indifferent towards diamonds. :P

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sierra Leone civil war began in 1991,initiated by the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) fueled by frustration over the mismanagement of mineral resources by the inept and corrupt African Government at that time.

While RUF may have started with a respectable aim, they themselves became corrupt, laundering diamonds to fuel their horrendous massacre, mass rapes and limbs amputation, and disintegrating Sierra Leone into a murderous sinkhole of death and torture.

Roughly 2 million people (roughly 1/3 of the population) were driven to seek refuge in neighbouring countries.
Local citizens were left to fend for themselves against bloodthirsty and drugged child soldiers. Commanders often cut the children's arms and packed the wounds with cocaine; marijuana was everywhere.

Until the 1980s, De Beers was directly involved in Sierra Leone, had concessions to mine diamonds offshore. Since then, however, the relationship has been indirect. De Beers has a near de facto monopoly on the world’s diamond trade and rules the industry by creating an artificial scarcity.

De Beers maintains a diamond trading company in Liberia, which produce very few diamonds itself, and widely understood to be a ‘transit’ country for smuggled diamonds of Sierra Leonean origin, and others reportedly originate as far away as Russia and Angola.

Throughout 1991 to Jan 2002, the development of the war was largely elusive from world media coverage. Events far from home often have very tangible effects. Then on September 11, 2001, the world saw horrifying evidence of the peril of ignoring such conflagrations and their related gross violations of human rights.

In 1998 the international diamond industry produced an estimated 115 million carats of rough diamonds with a market value of US $6.7 billion. At the end of the diamond chain, this was converted into 67.1 million pieces of jewelry worth close to US $50 billion.

In mid-2001, A mere three months before the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks, Al Qaeda had laundered millions of dollars by buying untraceable diamonds from the rebels. In the wake of Sept. 11, the United States and its allies in the “war on terrorism” froze more than $100 million worth of Al Qaeda assets worldwide. But the terrorists likely have an ace in the hole in the form of diamonds from Sierra Leone, wealth that can be easily and quickly sold and is virtually untraceable.

For years, terrorists had been exploiting both the world's disdain for intervening in Sierra Leone and the international diamond industry's tacit funding of war Examples of such African wars—in Sierra Leone, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo , and NOW, IVORY COAST....

When you forget a face or can't find your car keys, it's not because your brain is out of storage space. You just aren't filtering out other thoughts well enough, a new study finds.

The research contradicts a popular notion that memory capacity is solely dependent on how much information you can cram into your noggin.

Rather, it shows that if you can disregard some of what you see, you'll do a better job remembering the visual input you deem important.

Ignore this

Researchers measured brainwaves as objects popped into the minds of the test subjects, who watched colored rectangles appear on a computer screen. In one experiment, researchers told the subjects to focus on two red rectangles and ignore two blue ones.

Without exception, one group had all the rectangles in mind, while another group of individuals -- who were already deemed to have high memory capacity -- consistently excelled at dismissing the blue rectangles.

"People differed systematically, and dramatically, in their ability to keep irrelevant items out of awareness," said study leader Edward Vogel of the University of Oregon.

Vogel thinks of this ability to focus as akin to having a thought bouncer in the brain, managing crowd control. The results, detailed in the Nov. 24 issue of the journal Nature, suggest ways to improve memory abilities.

"Being 'scatterbrained' is often a symptom of a hectic modern life in which we are often overcommitted, overworked, and inundated with information," Vogel told LiveScience. "Given such an environment, it would not be surprising if many of our important cognitive control processes become overtaxed and less efficient. Attentional training may be able to improve one's ability to bounce irrelevant information from awareness."

Imagine that

Not that the lack of a bouncer is necessarily bad thing.

"There may be advantages to having a lot of seemingly irrelevant information coming to mind," Vogel points out. "Being a bit scattered tends to be a trait of highly imaginative people."

But for those who would like to do better at keeping track of their thoughts, help might be on the way. Vogel's team is working on focusing drills based on the new research.

Other work by Vogel's University of Oregon colleague Michael Posner has found that five days of attention training helped children develop their memory bouncer and raise scores on general intelligence tests.

"It appears that these functions can be improved through training, at least during childhood," Vogel says. "Interestingly, there has been some recent evidence that similar improvements can also be seen in adults who have been trained on certain video games."

Scatterbrained? You Need a Thought Bouncer

By Robert Roy Britt

    <lj:music>Nothing in this world</lj:music>

Today is so surreal.

I came back from class to find my long-serving Giordano wallet missing.
It has been with me for 4 years and is hardly in one-piece now.
But I have developed this clinging attachment for it.
I don't even check out purses and the likes during shoppings because I just don't think I need a new one.

I hate the fact that I am such a scatterbrain at times.

I retraced my steps down to the kitchen.
Checked the gas stove, near the dustbin where I ate 2 mangosteens, in the fridge (I once left Hoon's handphone in it), back to the car porch, dived amongst the dusty car seats, outside the gate to the road..... NADA. Haixzz

Think.... think hard....
I could almost hear my own thought bubbles explode.
I can'tttt remember....

Made a few phone calls, told my story to Hoon and Jei.
Told them it is REALLY gone this time.
But I was smiling.
Because I felt lucky to have had paid Hoon and Matilda back. Yeah there's less than RM50 in my Giorgiee so I was.... glad.

I made boyboy go back to school with me in quest of hunting Giorgiee down.
Then I got my Lucky Strike ;> it's a phone call from a friend.
Somebody found Giorgiee! >_<
HOOooooooooooooooorayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy~~~~!!!!!! :D

An EE third year senior found it in the tutorial room I was in!
I feel so mighty grateful to this Godsent angel.
Anonymous Angel, You made my day!
Hey .... hang on a sec... HE.IS.NOT an anonymous.
I found a note inside.... :O
.....with his name, a Digi number and the magic line depicting: I found your purse
hahahah ~ an angel with a name and a sense of humour!
Me SUKA! :)

This world is such a beautiful place to be in ~ ^_^
I love everybody! and my scatterbrain! :)
Watched this movie because someone very very clever from across the globe conned me into downloading it thinking it was "The Wickerman"... :P But I have to thank this very very clever person because I totally enjoyed the show. ;)

Based on a 1996 best-selling novel written by Nicholas Sparks, who is also responsible for tearjerkers like A Walk to Remember (Mandy Moore, Shane West) and Message in a Bottle (Kevin Costner, Robin Wright Penn). The story of The Notebook (starring Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling, James Garner, and Joan Allens) is told in a flashback by the present day version of the main character Noah Calhoun to the then dementia stricken Allie Hamilton. It plunges squarely into the typical category of CBS Hallmark specials.

The story is of the courtship and potentially lethally sweet sweet sweeeeet love story between an impoverished small town boy, Noah and Allie, the daughter of an aristocratic Southern American family.

The predictable twist of plots, it's being corny and LOADED (don't say I didn't warn you :P) with cliches almost turn "The Notebook" into a self parody but anyways ... I am in a hopelessly romantic mood ... heeee ... and it made me lighthearted and brought tears to my eyes... :)

The weather couldn't have been more cooperative.... :
).... I am feeling so grateful ....

If life gives you a lemon, make a lemonade out of it.

But I have had too many lemonades the past few day.
So I opted to make lEmOn mErInGuEs~ instead!... har.har. Very funny :P Silly me...
Feel like kicking myself.@#$%@

The paper I sat for just now gave me dry mouth. indigestion. a major depression. and endless insane ideas of breakaway and rebelling. This has happened TOO MANY TIMES.

I would be the biggest fool if I ever again allow these daft tests to make me feel small, mortified, worthless and dumb.
There is simply no justice to it.

Why must I change my lifestyle and study habits just so that I can mug the ultra structured syllabus in time and let you test me whether I've mugged enough? Hah? and not to mention these tests are done according to every lecturer's diverse continuum of whims and fancies. I am not going to bow to comformation.

Our lecturers are from India and I am a loser in trying to "think in line" with them. Honest. They are all Hard To Predict, Deep People...

I swear I'll get lost in their maze of thoughts if even I try.

I am too simple minded for my own good.

It doesn't make any cow sense. I learn better if I research a subject because I am curious and interested about the it. Such can only happen if I am given more space, freedom, and flexibility in grading methods. I REFUSE to allow this asphyxiating grading system to stifle my brain and turn me into whatever you scheming rats have in mind.

XP :P

Good night. :P:P:P

The day I lost my voice (it was without symptoms and totally caught me off guard), I called my mom because I needed her to coo away my initial shock.

So I was shoved rudely back to the cold and harsh reality that I've been growing up in a family without much of love and attention. I whispered loudly over the phone to tell her that I had lost my voice, and what I got was having my mom all hyped up about this movie called "Lady in The Water" (My happy family just came home from the movie....) I was so heartbroken and distressed at that time that I cut the conversation short by telling her I have something waiting for me.

And I was so ever the DETERMINED (clenching jaws!!) to check this movie out, which I finally did just now.

I watched the movie with a tad more expectations then always since
1. Shyamalan was the man behind the sensationally intriguing "Sixth Sense", plus
2. Having seen my mom the cynic actually enjoyed it.. haha

It was a painfully mediocre movie. The epilogue was fresh and creative with stickman and ala fairy-tale narration, but the movie failed to sustain my interest along the way (precisely 25minutes into it, I had problem sitting still). Shyamalan was trying too hard by having a cast consisting a microcosm of colors, creeds, shapes and sizes (especially the 7 sisters) all playing tenants of this small apartment building. The story revolves around helping a narf named Story to get back to her world unharmed, and that pretty much sums it all.

If I had watched it in a less sober state, i could have loved it.
It's just another family film, a make believe fairy tale. I am giving it a "B".
:P

I have to get back to my tonnes of assignments now ... Oh Gawd I am so stressed out ....

Ok the non journalistic approach.

This morning at 6am I woke up to my damn alarm to hitch a busride to school to register. Days like this make me yearn for a car of my own.
Thanx dad for sending me a car:) which is to arrive end of this month, I love you DaDEEE:*

Okay so I reached around 7 and almost fainted when I realize my gungho juniors were all lined up in the hall all the way out to the main road. FARK

Ok, so I took my time off to say hello to my biaches I miss so much being seperated for the whole 3 months, like Sushii and Matty :)

Thennnnnn I lined up for the rest of the whole morning. I was at one time, this very short period of time, ecstatic because I was finally an arms length away from the door. I was squeezed between the sweaty bodies for ages outside that door and was patiently waiting until one hideous uncle decided it was fun to squish all his adipose tissues between every milimetres of gap between us with his arms in the air (armpits in my face!!!!!!!!!!)
Close contact with a sweaty FAT body is not exactly of my liking.
I threw him ANnoying glances so many times I almost worried my eyeballs would stay that way forever.

I finally gave up on my feeble attempts to scare him and told my friends I have to leave.
and I did, which was not at all that bad because the management later blatantly told that they have to use another door :P nyanyaahh

But, I felt a sadistic need to get back at the dirty fat man but did not have the chance to so I was shitty moody the whole day.

OKAYyyyy, being cool and calm and always, I started to queue up again in front of another door, and as expected the guard made the seniors come back at 2 so that the freshies can get their things done first.

Francoise was a dear and she drove me up to the "twin tower" so that I could submit my junior's appeal letter. I wasn't in the proper formal attire and the guard tried to make me leave. I was left with no darn choice so I told him so ever confidently that I am not a current student and do not have any slightest idea of the dress code.

so there I was walking back to Francoise with a proud smile:)

We went through another round of insane queueing (sweaty bodies tightly packed in a suffocatingly tiny coridoor)

The day ended with all of us heading home unregistered and pissed because the server was down and I don't know who to curse for that

So :P blehhhhh to all the staff responsible for this

This is just an unsent complaint letter meant to be sent to TheDailyExpress.
Wasn't sent because the anger wore out very quickly. hehe.........

A new semester has begun in Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

Students fly back to the land below the wind from all parts of Malaysia early just to register for their courses as the university has sadly, not yet realize the convenience of online registration.

On the 10th of July, students head to register as early as 6am, only to be greeted by a huge crowd consisting students who were there earlier than them.

The day started with a big hiccup as the students were divided into the arts and education stream and the science stream. Of which students were asked to register in seperate halls according to the classification.

So we get one hall with the line so long it extended from the entrance to the hall to under blazing sun in the middle of the road outside the hall, and another hall, barely half full.

This was not a surprise. 1028 students registered into the arts and education and 2171 were in the science stream in the 2004/2005 intake in the UMS main campus so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why.

The system was miserable. The server went down 2 to 3 times before noon.
The processing was so slow that the seniors were asked to leave the line so that the freshies can register first, and so they did. They were asked to come back at 2pm. Those who missed their breakfast and lunch to catch a public bus or rent a car (because of lost faith in the university transportation) left for their break in a campus cafe.

Little did they know that they would be asked to leave at the end of the day without registering after having to wait until 5pm. The students who had been queuing up the whole day were rightfully resentful. It was disheartening to
see them singing praises for other public institutions of higher learning where their friends get to register whether online or not, in matter of seconds.
They on the other hand had to put up with insane pushing, waiting and minor conflicts with some queue cutters who were simply frustrated fellow students. They were forced to line up in a coridoor jammed full with sweaty, tired and
angry people with awful ventilation for the whole day, and leave empty-handed.

The university's failure to deliver, resulted in an average of 8 hrs wasted from roughly 3000 students, making it roughly 24,000 lost hours (2.53 years), which could be used to make a wonderful change in the world.

In their hearts, the students of University Malaysia Sabah were utterly disappointed as this happen unfailingly, year after year.
They pray that the university would be able to learn faster in this new age, where the slow ones, more often than not,get sidelined.

Shifted into new house barely one month ago, so life is still crispy new and interesting. Devoted most of the time in the kitchen, after realizing how horrible my culinary skill is. Arghh...
note to self: New Year Resolution-> Learn to cook, at least well enough to feed myself through year 2006.;P...(Eating out is too expensive, what better alternatives would you suggest? SuCKSS!!)

I always catnap with my headphones on. I have this made-up-theory that my dreaming pattern is affected by the music. So, I always like to sleep with Danny Elfman's creation.;)
.....Oh and so this afternoon, I was in midst of "waltzing" with some fairies until I was rudely shoved out from slumberland. Blink blink ... eyes wide opened, irregular palpitation. What the heck!?!?!?

It took me half a minute to understand what's going on. I accidentally added the track - "fuckoff" by kidrock feat. limpbizkit, korn, eminem, into my playlist. Downloading it was itself a huge misjudgement. It reflects badly on my taste and character. Yes, seriously. /*Shakehead*/ Having a string of F*** roared into your auditory labyrinth is not exactly nice wake-up-call.

Anyway, after the initial shock, I bursted into an insane laughter and played that over and over again. The way they chain up f***'s takes amazing literary prowess. These guys are hilarious..Waahhaah

After a while, I cooled down a little. Went on to plant cilipadi and papaya seeds in the front yard. What a cool way to start the year :) Plant a tree.. haha
Please please grow up fast because chillies helps me eat better. When the food is spicy+hot, I chew faster and swallow faster. Thus I do not really taste them, in this case, my own cooking .... which is a good thing.
